Ethiopian Coffee sport club has been founded in 1976 with its first name called”Ye buna Nigat Kokeb” by the interested workers Unions of the industrial factory. The club started to compete in the third division in football and athletics sports.
During such historic period, the club has been able to win four winners cup and Fair play trophies, and besides the club has been successful in winning several medals and certificates in athletics sport. The club is the leading club in the country winning the Ethiopian Knockout Competition as it took it.
After 1982 the club has been re-established its self under the coffee market cooperation with the new name called ”COFFEE MARKET SPORT CLUB” ”Ye Ethiopia Buna Gebeya sport club” The club could managed to participate in different sport activities such as football, volleyball and athletics ( both in male and female),Box sport and table tennis as well.
The Ethiopian coffee sport club has been producing several footballers and athletes for the Ethiopian National team. The club has managed to produce several fans and supporters and still the greatest and leading club in possessing huge amount of fans and supporters in the country.
Eventually, in 1994 the club has re established again under public ownership and renamed “The Ethiopian Coffee Sport Club”, ’’ Ye Ethiopia Buna Sport club”. Ethiopia coffee sport club has been owned several trophies and awards in its more than 30 years history. When we see the club’s achievement, from the year 1977 up to 1983 the Ethiopian coffee Sport Club has won four titles and fair play award. In 1983 the club has made progress and become the second division champion. After the club is being promoted to the first division in 1986, the club becomes champion in first division for the first time and finished second place in the Ethiopian Knockout competition.
From the year 1986 up to 1988 the club hadn’t been successful in the first division, and finishes from 4th to 6th place respectively. But in 1988 the club was champion of the Knockout championship. From the year 1989 up to 1995 the club continuously participated in the first division and finishes from 2nd to 5th place.
In 1996 the club made a reform and joined the Super League Competition and this year remains a significant transitional phase in the clubs history. In 1997 the club won the Ethiopian Championship Competition. The year 1998 was the greatest historical land mark in the club’s history. Though the club finishes 3rd place the National League it was the Knockout champion and achieved international success as it finished 3rd and won Bronze Medal in the Eastern and Central Zone of African Clubs Championship in 1998. In 1999 the Ethiopian Football Federation has modified the competition format from Super league to the Ethiopian Premier League and increased its participant clubs through including regional clubs. The Ethiopian Coffee Sport Club has finished 3rd place in the Premier League establishment year but has been Knockout Championship finalist in the same year.
The club again finished 3rd for two consecutive year in the Ethiopian Premier League but yet another historical land mark has been achieved as the club become a double winner of the Knockout Championship and Champion of “ Winner of Winners” competition in 2000. This makes the club double winner and back-to-back finalist in the Ethiopian Knockout competition. In 2001 the club achieved 2rd place in the Ethiopian Premier League and Semi-finalist in The Ethiopian knockout Championship. In 2002 the club finished 3rd place for the second time in the row and become champions of the Knockout Competition in the same year. After all these achievement the club continue the same trend and become back-to-back Champion of the Knockout competition for the second time and finished second place in the Ethiopian Premier League in 2003. In Ethiopian Premier League, from the Year 2004 up to 2006 the club finished from 3rd, 6th and 2nd place respectively.
From the Ethiopian Premier League but due to the disagreement among the higher official and leaders of the Ethiopian Football Federation the club was forced to quit itself from the competition year 2004 the club has end up without any trophies. In 2007 the club was participating in the Ethiopian Premier League but due to disagreement among the Federation higher officials and leaders the Ethiopian Coffee Sport club was forced to quit itself from the competition. In 2008 the club rejoined the Premier League with a great achievement. Though the club finished 5th place in the Premier League it has been a double winner for the third time as the club realizes through becoming champion in Knockout competition and in the ’’Winner of Winners’’ tournament.
In 2009 the club couldn’t be able to continuo in the same championship pace in the Knockout competition but progress has been made in the Premier League as the club finishes 2nd place. In 2010 the club travels in a new successful era as it become the Champion in the Ethiopian Premier League for the first time in the club’s history. It was a significant historical landmark after 13 long and challenging years the club managed to be a winner in the country’s biggest League under the leadership of Coach Wubetu Abate. The club has been led by different Coaches and has produced several legendary players for the Ethiopian football in different sports.
